Since 2007, over 500 families from throughout Tampa Bay have chosen Breath of Life Women’s Health & Birth Center for care that is safe, personal and natural. Ours is the only birth center in the Tampa Bay area staffed by Certified Nurse-Midwives … the only nationally accredited birth center in the state of Florida. Breath of Life specializes in maternity services and natural birth as well as women’s primary and gynecological health care.
Breath of Life, located in central Pinellas County, features three private waterbirth suites with garden access. We encourage fathers to be totally involved, including “catching” their baby. Most moms labor in water, and many experience water birth.
The birth center is staffed exclusively by women, including three Certified Nurse-Midwives/Nurse Practitioners (registered nurses with a Midwifery Master’s degree and ACME national certification) who follow the Midwives Model of Care* and through trusting relationships partner with women for complete prenatal, birth and postpartum care, annual well woman exams and a full range of primary health care services from adolescence to beyond menopause. Our Registered Nurse is also a Certified Lactation Counselor providing breastfeeding support and counseling.
The center is equipped with three exam rooms and three waterbirth suites (“Garden Suite,” “Beach Suite,” and “Nature’s Watch Suite”) which resemble upscale hotel rooms with oversized bathrooms.
Each suite has a large waterbirth tub for labor and birth, a flat-screen TV, a stereo system with iPod docking station and a semi-private patio. Clients are welcome to personalize their suite with comforting items from home.
Breath of Life’s peaceful birth suite settings capture the loving essence of an intimate experience. The whole family may be present, or moms and dads may choose to share the experience for themselves. We honor the emotional intimacy of birth in ways not seen in more traditional settings. Our “Family Lounge,” equipped with a small kitchen, couch, comfy chairs and a TV/DVD player, is available for friends and family members.
